Scale Model of Shanghai

On the third floor of the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum, the future of Shanghai awaits. 

In what is possibly the largest scale model of a city ever, this mock-up represents China’s most populous metropolis. The exhibit is a look at what urban developers envision for the future of Shanghai. With over 1,000-square feet of both current and planned developments, the model doesn’t miss even a detail of the overwhelming city. A 360-degree screen also plays a video designed to give viewers the feeling of flying over the city from their perches on the gallery that runs around the outside of the viewing room.

While the scale model of a futuristic Shanghai is the jewel in the crown of the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum (also called the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center) it isn’t the only attraction. The six-story building has other scale models of specific neighborhoods in the city, as well as exhibitions showcasing the history and examples of approved buildings slated for development.
