The clock on Česká Street is a fairly popular meet-up spot in Brno. If you wait for a friend here, there’s someone to keep you company, even if you don’t see him. He happens to be the smallest public statue in the city.

Created by sculptor Václav Sigurson Kostohryz, the 20-centimeter-tall statue sits on a metal bar, unnoticed by many. It was added to the clock when it was repaired by clockmaker Jan Kopřiva, and Kostohryz paid out of his own pocket for the expenses, making it using the lost wax method of casting. He then offered it to the clock’s owner, the Brno diocese of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church.

Česká Street has long been a cultural hub for the city. It’s filled with small shops and historic architecture, and offers a route to náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square) in the center of Brno.
